Eggs that are 2 months out of date are not considered safe to eat.
Once eggs go past 2 months after expiration they are often spoiled and are not good or safe to eat.
However eggs that are kept properly refrigerated at 40 F or lower are usually safe to eat for 4 to 5 weeks beyond the expiration date.
But once the eggs go past 5 weeks of expiration they are not considered safe to eat.
You can crack the egg open and if it smells okay then it may be safe to eat.
Eggs may be refrigerated for 3 to 5 weeks from the day the eggs are placed in the refrigerator.
The "Sell-By" date on eggs will usually expire during that length of time, but the eggs will be perfectly safe to use.
Always purchase any eggs before the "Sell-By" or Exp (expiration) date on the carton.
You can tell if eggs are still good by doing the float test.
To perform the float test for eggs, gently set the egg into a bowl or bucket of water.
If the egg sinks then the egg is fresh and safe to eat.
However if the egg tilts upwards or even floats, it is old and unsafe to eat.
The reason the bad egg floats is because as an egg ages, the small air pocket inside it grows larger as water is released and replaced by air.
