Dolobid the brand name has been discontinued, although the Dolobid medication itself is still available.

While the original brand name medication under the name of Dolobid and developed by Merck is gone, the exact same active medication is still widely available under it's generic name of diflunisal.

You still also need a prescription from a doctor to get the general version of Dolobid, which is diflunisal.

Dolobid is sold under the generic name of diflunisal, in standard 250 mg and 500 mg tablets.

The brand Dolobid was not removed for safety concerns or a lack of effectiveness.

Instead the brand name of Dolobid was removed simply as a business decision to phase out the brand name version.

Diflunisal belongs to the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) class.

And doctors mainly prescribe diflunisal for treating.

Mild to moderate pain.

Osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis.

And diflunisal is sometimes used off label for slowing down certain conditions like certain rare diseases, like familial amyloid polyneuropathy or FAP.

Diflunisal is a nonsteroidal drug with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties.

Diflunisal is a peripherally-acting non-narcotic analgesic drug.

In contrast to salicylic acid which has a plasma half- life of 2½ hours, the plasma half-life of diflunisal is 3 to 4 times longer (8 to 12 hours), because of a difluorophenyl substituent at carbon 1.

Diflunisal can cause serious bleeding, ulcers, or tears in the stomach.

These problems can occur at any time and with no warning signs.

They are more common with long-term use.
