An alternative to hoisin sauce is duck sauce or plum sauce or even sweet and sour sauce.

Plum sauce and hoisin sauce are not the same although they are similar in flavor and can be substituted for one another.

Plum sauce is more of a jammy type of sauce and made from plums while Hoisin sauce is a spicer sauce with more potent flavors.

You can substitute sweet and sour sauce, duck sauce or even Hoisin sauce for plum sauce.

Homemade plum sauce and store bought plum sauce can be frozen.
