Cabbage is not a nightshade vegetable.

Cabbage, comprising several cultivars of Brassica oleracea, is a leafy green, red, or white biennial plant grown as an annual vegetable crop for its dense-leaved heads.

Cabbage contains phytonutrients that act as antioxidants to reduce your risk of certain cancers.

However, eating large quantities of cabbage can cause negative side effects, such as flatulence, diarrhea, medication interactions and hypothyroidism.

Cabbage is very healthy for you but some people do experience gas as well as bloating from eating cabbage.

Yes cabbage can cause bloating in some people especially those people who have digestive issues.

Cabbage contains a sugar called raffinose which remains undigested in your stomach until your gut bacteria ferments the raffinose sugar in the cabbage.

The bloating and gas can happen to just about anybody who eats cabbage.

However some people who have digestive issues may experience more bloating or gas when eating cabbage because the persons stomach and digestive system has trouble digesting the raffinose sugar and cabbage.

I only experience the bloating from the cabbage when I eat too much of it.

But my sister has more digestive issues and when she eats just a little bit of cabbage she experiences bloating and gas buildup in her stomach.
