Dough can be kneaded with a hand mixer or simply by hand.
However a stand mixer makes a better mixer for kneading dough with and it's much faster to knead dough with the stand mixer.
You can use a dough hook attachment to knead dough with a stand mixer and it's how I knead my dough although I used to knead the dough by hand but the stand mixer makes it easier.
A stand mixer is a better option for mixing ingredients with as you can prepare other things while the stand mixer mixes the ingredients.
With a hand mixer you need to use your arm to move the mixer around to mix the ingredients.
The stand mixer saves you time as you can set the ingredients to mix with the stand mixer and then do other things while the stand mixer is mixing the ingredients.
