Should frosted cupcakes be kept in the fridge?

Is it okay for frosted cupcakes to be left out on the counter or should I put the frosted cupcakes in the refrigerator?

If you don't plan to eat them within a day or so then yes put them in the fridge.

But I've left out some frosted cupcakes for a day or 2 before eating them and they were okay to eat.
