When boiling beans all you have to do is fill a pot with around 2 to 3 inches of beans and then fill the pot up with water.

Don't fill the pot with water till it's full because the water can boil over and the reason you want to add only 2 to 3 inches of beans to the pot is the beans will expand as they cook in the water.

So if you add too many beans to the pot the beans will spill out of the pot which has happened to me before.

Then after adding the beans and water get the water up to boiling and then turn the heat down some and keep a lid on the pot of beans but put the lid on but keep one side of the lid propped up a little to allow the steam to vent.

You want to simmer the beans gently for 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the type of the beans and make sure the beans have plenty of water.

You may need to add some more water when cooking the beans as sometimes the water will evaporate out of the pan.

Once the beans are tender and firm then they are done.

necessary or required to soak beans before you cook them.

I cook beans all the time in my slow cooker while away at work and I just put the beans in the slow cooker in the morning and add some water and then turn the slow cooker on and let the beans cook while I'm away at work.

I then come home 9 hours later and the beans are fully cooked and ready to eat.

The reason some people soak beans in water overnight is mainly to help the beans cook faster the next day and also remove the chemical from the beans that cause gas in your stomach.

So if you want to reduce the gas buildup in your stomach then soaking them the night before cooking them and then replacing the water with fresh water before cooking them will help the beans cook faster and remove the chemical from the beans that cause gas buildup.

Then you'll experience less gas in your stomach and less farting as a result.
