Clams that are fresh and good should never smell fishy.

If you have clams that smell fishy then they are no good and should not be cooked or eaten.

Clams smelling fishy is an indicator of the clams spoiling.

Also clams should be only killed to eat when ready to cook and if the clam has already died then it grows bacteria and should not be cooked or eaten.

The smell and aroma of fresh and good clams be a smell that is like the ocean and salty air and the clams should be clean and briny looking.

Clams should be soaked before cooking them to allow the clam time enough to push out sand as well as salt water out of their shells.

Soak the clams in the water for 20 minutes which is enough time for the clams to filter water and take in fresh water and get rid of the sand and salt water.

Also Clams are heart healthy.
