How long before a website or blog becomes profitable?

When you start up a new blog or website how long does it take before it starts making a profit and enough money to live off of?

How many years did it take before your website become profitable enough to live off of?

To some a website would be considered making a profit once it's covering it's hosting costs as well as domain fees and making a bit more to cover your lunch.

And to some like me I wouldn't consider my website to be profitable until it's paying me back on all the time I spent or am spending on working on building the website up.

For me it took 5 years before I was seeing enough profit from my website to cover more than the hosting costs and getting a monthly salary from it where I could live off of it.

In the first year it wasn't making anything and in the second year it made $30.00 and then in the 5th year I started getting a monthly payout and it's continuing to rise.

Expect it to take 5 years before you get regular monthly deposits from Adsense or other ad networks from your website.

You might earn some money in the first year or 2 but it can take longer up to 5 years or more before regular payments are being made into your checking account.
