Although potatoes today are mostly grown in Idaho the potato is not actually native to Idaho.

Potatoes are native to Peru and then brought into Idaho by Henry Spaulding many years ago.

The reason Idaho is the potato state is that Idaho has the perfect soil and growing conditions for potatoes.

The soil is very rich in the nutrients and minerals that potatoes need to grow properly and they get a lot of water runoff that also helps to water the potatoes.

Idaho has been the potato state for many years and most potatoes you buy in the stores will likely have been grown in Idaho.

Then after they grow the machines harvest the potatoes which then go to a place to be packaged and then loaded onto trucks to be delivered to your store.

Idaho grown potatoes can travel thousands of miles to get to you.

You can grow potatoes in just about every state as long as you water them properly, allow them plenty of sun and take care of them.

But when it comes to growing potatoes in mass quantities to stock the store shelves and feed a lot of people it's better to grow the potatoes in the state of Idaho.
