To use toothpaste for bruises you mix a small amount of some white toothpaste with some lotion and then apply it to the bruised area before you go to bed or any other time.

Applying toothpaste that is mixed with some lotion to the bruise, helps the bruise by breaking up clots.

You should also repeat the applying of toothpaste and lotion to the bruise at least 2 to 3 nights, although it might cause skin irritation in some people.

Simply combine a small amount of white toothpaste, "not the gel" with a daily skin lotion, then gently rub the mixture of toothpaste and lotion into the bruised area and apply a bandage over the area to protect it.

What helps bruises fade fast is to apply a cold pack immediately to the bruised area for 15 to 20 minutes.

The cold pack or ice pack applied to the bruise immediately for 15 to 20 minutes restricts blood flow and helps the bruise heal and fade faster.

After you apply the cold pack or ice pack to the bruise you should elevate the leg or arm if it's the bruised location to reduce pressure.

Then after 48 hours, you can use a warm compress on the bruised area to increase blood circulation and help break up any trapped blood.

Other good things to use to help a bruise heal are topicals like Aloe Vera, Vitamin K Cream or even Arnica, which can help the healing process of the bruise.

You can also use some frozen vegetables in a pack to act as an ice pack after wrapping it in a towel, if you don't have any ice or ice packs.

Apply the ice pack or cold pack for 15 to 20 minutes several times a day, which helps constrict your blood vessels and also limits the spread of the bruise.

And keep the bruised area elevated above your heart when possible, to help minimize any swelling and reduce blood flow to the injury.

And if the bruise is on a limb, you can consider using an elastic bandage, to apply some gentle pressure to reduce any swelling.

Avoid using heat initially and for at least the first 24 hours after the bruise as it can increase swelling.

After 48 hours you can apply a heating pad or even a warm towel to the bruised area to increase blood flow, and allow the body to clear away any trapped blood faster.

Most bruises heal and go away within a week or two, although some people have longer lasting bruises, which can be normal.

If the bruise lasts longer than a few weeks or you have any increased swelling or signs of infection you should see a doctor.

But most bruises heal on their own and cause no other issues.
