The “adductor” muscles which are also known as the nuggets of the flesh of the scallop is the part of the scallop that you eat.

Although all parts of the scallops are edible people mostly only eat the meat part of the scallop which is mostly the nuggets of the flesh.

The rest of the scallops can build up toxins which may be harmful in large enough quantities to humans health but they are edible.

The nuggets of the flesh that we eat of the scallops are known as the “adductor” muscles which in the trade of catching scallops is just known as the meat of the scallop.

So when eating scallops you would eat the “adductor” muscles and throw the rest of the scallops away although the rest of the scallop is edible.
