Yes a rubber spatula can melt if you put it in a hot pan for too long.
Rubber spatulas can usually take the heat of the pot for a few seconds while you flip something over or scoop the food out of the pan but if the rubber spatula stays in contact too long with the hot pan then the rubber spatula could melt.
I've had it happen to me when I've left a rubber spatula sitting in the hot pan while the hamburger was cooking and forgot to remove the rubber spatula.
Then the rubber spatula started melting so I removed it and it was melted but the food was still okay.
Rubber spatulas can be used for cooking but don't let them get too hot.
