No you won't go to jail for Torrenting by itself because Torrenting is just a file copy protocol which very efficiently moves files around the Internet.
When you do get into trouble for torrenting is when you download illegal copies of files that you do not own the license too and it would only happen if you're caught.
Also your ISP may not like you Torrenting and may report you to the authorities or at least just suspend or terminate your internet service.
But many people do torrent and have never gotten into trouble but just be careful on what you actually torrent and use a VPN to help hide your IP address.
Doing that reduces your risk of being caught Torrenting.
