It often takes between 4 to 6 weeks after a consultative exam to get a decision for SSDI or even SSI.

Although the average timeline for a decision for SSDI or SSI after a consultative exam is 6 weeks, but it can take longer.

The doctor or doctors that examined you at the consultative exam including the psychologist has around 10 business days to write and submit their official report of you to the DDS or Disability Determination Service.

After the DDS or Disability Determination Services receives the consultative exam report, a claims adjudicator and medical consultant will review the findings alongside of your already existing medical history.

And this processing phase often takes 2 to 6 weeks to complete.

And while the 4 to 8 weeks of time is standard for a decision for SSDI or SSI, it can stretch to 3 months to 4 months and sometimes a bit longer if the state DDS office is currently experiencing heavy backlogs, if additional records are also requested or if the quality assurance audits are triggered.

The SSA portal only updates when applying for SSDI and SSI when a concrete status change occurs in your SSDI or SSI claim.

The SSA portal does not update daily or in real time and it can take weeks to even months or years for the status to update on your SSA portal.

On the SSA portal, there are no regular daily or weekly updates or refresh cycles.

You can see the exact same status on your SSA portal for weeks or several months and even years while your SSDI or SSI case is moving through review.

It's recommended that you check your SSA portal for updates for SSI or SSDI around once a month to avoid any unnecessary frustration.

Checking more than that is usually not necessary and often a waste of time.

Official SSDI or SSI decisions and approval or denial notifications are also often mailed out as physical letters through the USPS before or long after the online portal reflects the final outcome.

The SSA portal website also often displays a generic "Decision Made" message without actually specifying whether you were approved or denied SSDI or SSI until the actual letter arrives in your physical mailbox.

The SSA portal also tracks progress through milestones such as the Application Received, Under Review, Medical Review in Progress, which is usually the longest stage that is handled by DDS or Disability Determination Services and Pending Decision.

I would try not to check more than once a week if you can't wait once a month, although there's no penalty for logging in and checking the SSA portal for updates as it can be hard to go without checking, especially with a life changing decision like being approved for SSI or SSDI.

Many people do check more than once a day or once a every few weeks, but it doesn't update quickly and can go weeks without an update or months and years without updates.
