Rice usually lasts between 6 months to 12 months before it goes bad.
Still after the 12 months in the pantry the rice is likely still safe to eat unless it has any bad smell to it.
Sometimes rice will change colors but it doesn't mean it's unsafe to eat and if you wan to keep rice longer than 6 months in storage it's best to freeze the bags of rice or put the rice into an airtight container and freeze it or refrigerate it.
I've had rice in the freezer for over 4 years before and it was still good to eat after all that time.
I stock up on some foods like that in case we get snowed in or some other natural disaster happens and we need food and the store runs out or we cannot get to the store.
Rice is a pretty long lasting food as long as it's stored properly but eventually the rice will go bad if not eaten.
