I've never been to jail and don't plan to ever go to jail.
But when you get arrested and arrive at jail you'll start the booking process.
During the jail booking process you'll be Identified, Searched, Fingerprinted and then given your jail outfit to wear and you have to go into a room a change into your jail outfit and then hand your current clothes over to the jail staff.
The jail staff then puts your clothes into a room for storage that you can get back when you are released from jail.
Then you go into your holding cell until either you make bail or you go to court but then they will usually let you out to shower and eat.
Then at night you'll back into your jail cell and be locked in the cell until morning.
