The wax on rutabagas is paraffin wax.

The producers of the rutabagas put the thin layer of paraffin wax on rutabagas to keep the rutabagas from drying out when transporting them and when storing them.

To get the paraffin wax off the rutabagas you can use water and a vegetable brush to clean the wax off the rutabagas.

Just run the rutabagas under running water and with vigorous use of a vegetable brush the paraffin wax should come off the rutabagas.

Or you can just peel the outer layer of the rutabagas off to get the wax off them.

Rutabagas although not the best tasting vegetable are very healthy for you and are rich in nutrients like vitamin C, iron and vitamin B-6.
