As long as you remove the wax on the skin of the rutabaga you can eat the skin of the rutabaga if you want too.

However I've always just peeled the skin of the rutabaga off before cooking them or eating them because the rutabaga wax is sometimes hard to get off.

If you plant rutabagas then you don't have any wax on them so you can eat the skin of the home grown rutabagas or you can still peel the skin first if you prefer too.

The skin of the rutabaga does contain some nutrients so by eating the skin of the rutabaga you can help improve your health.

But even eating just the rutabaga is healthy as well although they don't taste very good raw.

I can only eat rutabagas when I peel the skin, chop them up and put them in soups and stews to make them more flavorful.

You an use a vegetable brush and some warm water to scrub the wax coating off the rutabaga skin but it takes some vigorous scrubbing.
