Yes after cutting onions up you should place the cut onions into a sealed container and then refrigerate them.

When the cut onions are kept refrigerated in a sealed up container the cut onions will last in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

You could freeze the cut onions and they will last up to 6 months or a year.

For example you could make onion rings and then freeze the onion rings and fry them later when you're ready.

I've done that and the homemade onion rings lasted up to a year in the freezer.

I like to prepare some onion rings and have some stored in the freezer so that all I have to do is take them out, thaw the onion rings and then deep fry the onion rings.

But you can keep cut onions in the refrigerator for up to 7 days before they go bad.

Uncut onions can stay out at room temperature for sometimes as long as a month but you really should eat them before a month for the best freshness.
