Yes Big Red gum does have xylitol in the gum as an ingredient for the artificial sweetener.

If your dog ate just one piece of the Big Red Gum that contained xylitol then there's usually no need to worry about it.

The ingredient xylitol is lethal to dogs but only in large enough doses and one piece of the gum would not contain enough xylitol to poison and kill your dog.

Just make sure you keep the gum and anything containing the ingredient xylitol up and out of the reach of dogs because if they eat too much of it then they could die.

But one piece of gum or something that contains a bit of xylitol should do no harm to your dog.

This is not true and a bit dangerous to claim-- the fatal dose of xylitol for dogs is just .05 grams per pound of their body weight. A piece of gum or a mint can have between .22-1g of xylitol. That means if your dog is 20lb, one piece may be enough to kill them. Please get your dog to a vet immediately if they're medium/small breed and got a hold of a piece of gum containing xylitol.

That being said, Big Red doesn't appear to contain any xylitol.

Big Red gum does not claim to contain any Xylitol. The ingredients are:

Sugar, Gum Base, Corn Syrup, Natural and Artificial Flavors; Less than 2% of: Glycerol, Soy Lecithin, Color Added, Acesulfame K, Hydroxylated Soy Lecithin, Aspartame, BHT (to Maintain Freshness).

I checked this on the website and the gum pack I have in my hand, they both agree. Big Red is real sugar gum with some added aspartame.
