I've used propane turkey fryers before several times to cook turkeys outside and never had a problem with them exploding.

Most times the turkey fryers explode because people put a completely frozen turkey into the propane turkey fryer when the cooking oil in the turkey fryer is hot.

The hot cooking oil in the turkey fryer then reacts with the frozen turkey because the sudden cold to hot against the oil and then it explodes and causes a fire.

As long as you thaw the turkey out overnight in the refrigerator first and then put the turkey into the turkey fryer and then after putting the turkey into the turkey fryer you can turn the turkey fryer on to get it hot.

I have never put a frozen turkey directly into the turkey fryer when it's hot because that causes fires.

I read in a news article around 5 or 6 years ago that someone burned their house down during Christmas season because they had the turkey fryer hot and then added a frozen turkey to the turkey fryer outside which then caused the hot cooking oil to spread and catch fire around the turkey fryer and then caught the house on fire as well as gave the guy severe burns.
