When purchasing food you should place the food that needs refrigerated in the refrigerator within 5 or 10 minutes of getting home.
When I go grocery shopping and have foods that require refrigeration such as meats and even milk I place the meats, milk, cheese etc in a cooler with ice.
Then that will keep the food cold enough until I get home and can put it in the refrigerator.
Sometimes I get busy when I get home and then an hour later I remember to put the food in the refrigerator which is okay since the food is being kept cold with ice in the cooler.
However if I didn't have the food in a cooler then the food could go bad and have to be thrown out.
So if you do not use a cooler with ice to store your foods in while bringing them home then you should get the food into the refrigerator within 5 or 10 minutes of getting the food home.
Try to put the food, milk etc into the refrigerator first thing when you get home and I know that is hard to do when you have kids to deal with.
But get the food into the refrigerator as son as possible.
Of course if you have a baby or small child bring them into the house first and do not leave them out in the vehicle alone.
