Adding some baking soda to the water and then soaking the beans in the baking soda and water overnight can help reduce the gas that beans cause.

Something about the baking soda helps extract whatever it is that causes the beans to be gassy so the beans will make you fart less than they would if you didn't soak the beans.

However the baking soda is supposedly not good to soak beans in because it supposedly removes the nutrients from the beans.

Still soaking the beans in plain over overnight or for 8 hours prior to cooking them removes the gassy causing chemical from the beans.

Just empty the water and put fresh water into the pot or slow cooker before cooking the beans and then you should get less gas in your stomach from eating the beans.

Soaking the beans overnight is also supposed to make the beans take less time to cook so the beans might cook in just 6 to 8 hours or sometimes less depending on the type of beans.
