XTAMPZA ER is not any stronger than oxycodone nor is Xtampza ER a different drug than oxycodone.

Instead Xtampza ER is just simply an extended release form of oxycodone that is designed for chronic pain.

Both oxycodone and Xtampza ER provide the same exact pain relief potency, although XTAMPZA ER releases over 12 hours and also has abuse deterrent technology and requires food for proper absorption.

The abuse deterrent of Xtampza ER is designed to resist crushing or dissolving.

Xtampza is also not the same as Percocet although both Xtampza and Percocet contain oxycodone.

Percocet contains both oxycodone (immediate release) and also acetaminophen (Tylenol) and is often used for short term and as needed for acute pain.

Xtampza ER is a long acting, extended release capsule that is taken every 12 hours for chronic pain.

Percocet also has 2 active ingredients which are acetaminophen and oxycodone.

The acetaminophen limits the maximum dosage of Percocet to prevent liver damage.

And Xtampza ER has only one active ingredient and is purely oxycodone that is designed with an abuse deterrent system to release the medication slowly and prevent tampering.

Percocet is a combination of immediate release oxycodone and acetaminophen.

Xtampza ER is also prescribed and taken for severe, around the clock pain, which requires long term treatment.

Percocet is designed for short term breakthrough pain and can't be taken long acting or continuously in the same manner.

Xtampza ER is only taken exactly every 12 hours with food and Percocet is taken every 4 hours to 6 hours as needed.

The generic name of Xtampza ER is oxycodone extended release and is a schedule II controlled substance.

Xtampza ER must be swallowed whole or the contents must be safely sprinkled onto soft foods like pudding or applesauce.

You should never crush, inject or snort Xtampza as it can cause a fatal overdose.

Common side effects of Xtampza include constipation, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness and drowsiness.

Xtampza can also interact with some other medications and can cause fatal respiratory depression or coma when combined with alcohol, benzodiazepines or other central nervous system depressants.
