Cooking black beans in a pot on the stove takes around 3 hours.
Add the beans to the pot but only just a little bit of beans enough to fill the bottom because the beans will expand as they cook.
Get the water boiling for 3 to 4 minutes and then turn the heat down to a simmer and cover the pot lightly but tilt the lid so that it can breath out the steam a little.
Check the beans every 20 to 30 minutes and stir occasionally to avoid the beans sticking in the pot.
I cook beans in the pot and the black beans are fully done to my specs within 3 hours of cooking.
