When thawing out a frozen turkey you should not thaw the turkey out on the counter overnight because when the turkey sits out on the counter at room temperature bacteria can grow on the turkey which can spoil it and make you sick.
What you can do though is remove the frozen turkey from the freezer and let it sit out for a couple hours on the counter and then place it in the refrigerator overnight and by morning or in the afternoon is should be thawed.
A good thing to do is remove the turkey from the freezer and place it in the refrigerator a couple days before you plan to cook the turkey so that it will have enough time to thaw.
