You can let the turkey sit out in a sink of cold water for a few hours to allow it to thaw out a little faster but never leave the turkey out of the refrigerator longer than a few hours.
When thawing a turkey out overnight for 24 hours place the turkey in the refrigerator to keep it cold enough to keep bacteria from growing on the turkey.
When thawing a frozen turkey you should place it in the refrigerator for the 24 hours prior to cooking it because if you leave the frozen turkey out at room temperature to thaw bacteria can grow on the turkey.
So place the turkey from the freezer into the refrigerator to let it thaw for 24 hours before you cook it.
