Some bakeries do try to donate some of the food such as bread and other pastries to places such as the Salvation Army or food pantries but sometimes some places won't accept the food from them.

And some refuse to come pick the food up from the bakeries and the bakeries cannot take it to them because they don't have time to do so.

Some charities such as food pantries have declined some food at a bakery I used to work at stating health reasons but that is just a bunch of baloney because the bread and other pastries are still very fresh after we close for the day or it may only be a day old and is still very good to eat even though it's not fresh.

I took some home and gave some of the pastries to neighbors and even some homeless people when I could to save a lot of it from going to the landfill which sickens me when people are going hungry.

Some bakeries even refuse to give away their baked goods themselves stating health reasons and possible lawsuits should someone get sick from it being a day old or not as fresh and it's just to cover their butts.
