*82 on your phone temporarily unblocks your Caller id for that specific call.

To use *82 on your phone, you dial *82 on your phone before you dial the phone number, which unblocks your Caller ID temporarily for that specific call.

When you dial the *82 on your phone before you dial the number, it allows your name and your phone number to appear on the recipient's caller ID or screen, even if you happen to have a permanent or carrier level block on your line.

People often use the *82 to call businesses, doctors or people who use Anonymous Call Rejection and block hidden phone numbers.

You simply dial *82, followed by the 10 digit phone number.

And for the majority of United States, Mobile phone carriers, the *82 temporarily overrides your default caller ID block.

If you call certain contacts frequently and want your phone number to be visible, you can also save the prefix directly into your phone's address book as *82 followed by the number you're dialing.

Another code you can dial is ##002# on your phone and pressing call instantly, which deactivates all active call forwarding and diverts.

This ensures that any forwarded calls, including the calls that are sent to voicemail are stopped and all incoming calls directly ring on your phone.

The ##002# code is commonly used for mobile security and privacy.

And fraudsters sometimes trick users into dialing codes that set up call forwarding to intercept sensitive verification codes such as 2FA or bank OTPs.

And so dialing ##002# acts as a kill switch to wipe out these malicious setups.

Also because voicemail operates through call forwarding, this code can temporarily disable your voicemail and you can easily re-enable your carrier's voicemail feature later through your phone's settings or by contacting your provider.

And on most traditional landlines and some digital phone networks, dialing activates Anonymous Call Rejection.

This feature automatically blocks incoming calls from private numbers or callers who have deliberately hidden their Caller ID.

The caller will hear a recorded message telling them to unblock their number and call again, while your phone remains silent.

Here is everything else you need to know about this code:

How it works: When you dial, you will hear a confirmation tone or recording. To turn the feature off and accept anonymous calls again, dial.

What it does NOT block: It only blocks calls from people who purposely hide their information (e.g., dialing first).

It will not block standard "Unknown" or "Out of Area" calls where the network simply did not transmit the Caller ID.

Mobile phones: On most modern cell phones (like AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile wireless), will generally return a "call cannot be completed" error.

Cell phone users should use built-in, native settings like iOS Silence Unknown Callers or Android Spam and Blocked Numbers to manage unwanted calls.

State Police: Be aware that in a few specific regions (such as Massachusetts and parts of Maryland/Illinois),
has been programmed to connect cell phone users to the state police for reporting erratic drivers.

If you accidentally trigger this outside your state, it may route incorrectly.
