The reason why you put foil on your bananas to slow down the release of ethylene gas, which keeps the bananas fresh longer.

Wrapping the banana stems in foil or encasing them in plastic wrap can slow down the release of the ethylene gas and keep your bananas fresh for longer.

You can also make bananas last longer by wrapping the stems of the bananas in plastic wrap and securing the plastic wrap around the stems of the bananas with a tie or rubber band.

The banana stems produce ethylene gas that spreads to the rest of the bananas which speeding up the ripening process and wrapping the stems contains the gas and keeps them from getting to the bananas and extends the shelf life of the bananas.

The bananas should also be stored on the counter or table and not refrigerated.
