The major E. coli outbreak that made carrots unsafe is over now.
The E. coli outbreak on carrots was linked to the Grimmway Farms organic in late 2024, but it's no longer active now and the recalled carrots were removed and discarded.
While the E. coli outbreak is over on the carrots now, you should still wash all carrots thoroughly, peel them if possible d discard any carrots that are mushy, slimy or smelly to be safe.
For the carrots that were recalled in late 2024, the CDC declared the E. coli outbreak linked to organic carrots over in December 2024.
Any recalled carrots with specific past used by dates in late 2024 are no longer around or on shelves.
Carrots from grocery stores are often safe now and the contamination of the E. coli that affected the carrots was specific to certain organic batches from one supplier which was Grimmway Farms during that time period.
Other brands of carrots were not affected.
If your carrots are bad, regardless of the brand of carrots you should discard them.
If the carrots are slimy, moldy, have dark spots or have a foul odor they should be discarded as these are signs of the carrots being spoiled.
If you have any organic carrots that have dates from the recall period of August 2024 to November 2024 you should throw them out as a precaution.
Although other carrots are safe in most cases.
