If a banana is not safe to eat you will know by the bad smell, fermenting and even leaking of fluid from the banana or if the banana is really black inside or really mushy then it should be thrown out.

Bananas are spoiled and should be thrown out if the banana smells rotten or is fermented or is leaking fluid or has a bad foul odor.

If you eat a banana with nigrospora nothing bad will happen to you as nigrospora is not considered harmful to humans.

Nigrospora sphaerica sometimes found in bananas is not considered a human pathogen and is not known to cause illness when eaten.

Banana fungus is not harmful to humans although it can look unappealing.

Some fungal infections that can affect bananas and banana plants can cause visible damage but they are not toxic to humans or pose any health risk to humans when consumed.

Various types of fungi can affect banana plants and cause issues such as banana freckle and Panama disease or Tropical Race 4.

The diseases can impact the health and the yield of the bananas and banana yield of the banana plants but they don't make the bananas harmful to humans to eat.

Some fungal infections of bananas can cause red or black discoloration inside of the banana, although the cosmetic changes don't mean that the banana and other fruits are unsafe to eat.

Another fungus called Nigrospora sphaerica sometimes found in bananas is not considered a human pathogen and is not known to cause illness when eaten.

The disease that harms the most bananas is Fusarium wilt, which is also known as Tropical Race 4 or TR4.

Fusarium wilt is a fungal disease that is a great threat to the production of bananas worldwide and there's no cure for Fusarium wilt TR4.

Cavendish bananas are the most widely consumed banana variety and are most susceptible to TRF, which causes a major concern for the global banana industry.

TR4 also spreads through infected plants, contaminated water and soil and even through human activity.

After a farm has been infected with Fusarium Wilt or TR4 it becomes difficult and costly to manage the disease and get rid of it, which often leads to complete yield loss of bananas.

The fungus can also remain viable in the soil for decades and make it difficult to replant in those locations.

You should no longer eat a banana if the banana has gone bad or has mold, is fuzzy, white, gray or greenish or if the banana has a rotten smell or fermented smell or is leaking.

The signs that a banana has gone bad is the bananas will have a rotten smell or fermented or alcohol like smell and the banana peel will become brown.

However even when a banana peel has gone somewhat brown the banana can still be safe to eat as long as it does not smell bad.

If the banana is leaking any fluid out of the banana peel then it's also another sign of the banana having gone bad.

To keep bananas fresh for 2 weeks and to make bananas last longer wrap the stems of the bananas in plastic wrap and secure the plastic wrap around the stems of the bananas with a tie or rubber band.

The banana stems produce ethylene gas that spreads to the rest of the bananas which speeding up the ripening process and wrapping the stems contains the gas and keeps them from getting to the bananas and extends the shelf life of the bananas.

The bananas should also be stored on the counter or table and not refrigerated.

The reason bananas shouldn't be refrigerated is because the enzymes that enable bananas to ripen are inhibited at cold temperatures.

As the enzymes become inactive in the bananas the other enzymes operate more efficiently and some can cause cell damage to the bananas and cause the skin of the bananas to blacken.

Bananas are best kept at room temperature unless they've been peeled and then in that case they should be refrigerated.

If you eat bananas every morning the bananas will help aid digestive health, promote satiety and give you energy and improve your health.
