Unable to highlight and copy and paste on my computer

On my computer I'm trying to copy and paste some text for a document I need to send but every time I use my mouse to highlight the text it won't stay highlighted in notepad?

Check your cpu usage. I find that if my cpu usage gets too high and my computer starts to lag that I'm unable to copy/paste things on my computer. I usually have to close some other programs I have running to speed my computer up.
