People do eat raccoons as raccoon meat is edible.

However the eating of raccoon meat is not as common now as it was in years past.

Raccoon meat has been historically eaten years ago and was a good food source for many people, especially in the American South.

Raccoon meat in the American South and other locations was mainly eaten out of necessity.

Some people still enjoy raccoon meat and often still prepare the raccoon meat similarly to as they would other game meats like dark turkey meat and venison or deer meat.

My Grandpa and Grandma who are no longer with us used to eat raccoon meat that they hunted and prepared on their farm.

I remember as a kid when I was at my Grandmas and Grandpas house that they fixed some stew with raccoon meat and I was reluctant to try it but decided to as I was hungry and it was actually pretty good tasting.

The taste from what I can recall of raccoon meat is similar to venison and dark turkey although it's fattier.

Raccoon meat is also often slow cooked or braised or used in stews, and often also alongside vegetables and it's also recommended that you remove any excess fat and cook the raccoon meat for an extended period of time to tenderize the meat.
