8 year old son says his penis is burning when peeing in his diaper?

My 8 year old son is in diapers full time due to urinary incontinence and just today he has said that his penis has been burning when he pees in his diaper?

He also says that his penis continues to burn even after he finishes peeing and has his diaper on?

An update, the issue with his penis and urine burning went away after a day with doing some diaper free time a few hours at a time during the day.

I also started wiping him more and making sure he cleaned up more and it was just irritation from the urine as I didn't always wipe him when I changed his wet diaper unless he was really soaked.

He does get a shower every night, although I have also start washing him in his genital area at least a few times during the day, when changing his diaper.

He says he feels much better now and no more burning feeling.

He usually wipes himself, when getting his diaper changed, although I have to sometimes help him and ensure he gets cleaned up properly and help him get his diaper fastened on properly.

So now I'm cleaning him up more myself to make sure he gets clean.

Your 8 year old sons penis burning when peeing in his diaper and burning afterwards could be due to friction the diaper or even due to urine causing irritation.

Other causes of your 8 year old son's penis burning when peeing in his diaper and burning even after peeing in his diaper could be a possible rash or even a urinary tract infection.

I would make sure that he takes a shower and cleans up down there and if possible allow your 8 year old son to air out without a diaper for a few hours during the day, which could help.

You can also apply some diaper rash cream to his penis to see if it helps.

If your 8 year old son's penis still burns after a day or two you should take your 8 year old son to his pediatrician or urgent care to get tested for a possible urinary tract infection.

If your 8 year old son also starts peeing blood, even in small amounts then it's likely a urinary tract infection and he should go to urgent care or the ER if you cant get to urgent care.

Diapers can be naturally irritating even though they mostly keep urine away from the skin, but pee can still remain against the skin and penis and cause a burning sensation.

I once accidentally left my 3 year old son in a wet diaper all day, as I got distracted and busy with other things and the next day he was complaining about his penis burning and pee hurting.

It turns out it was just because he was left in the diaper too long and the urine that turned to ammonia caused a temporary rash, but it cleared up within a few days.

Your son most likely has a simple rash or irritation on the tip of his penis that is causing the burning sensation.

Because you say that your 8 year old son still feels the burning sensation after peeing in his diaper, then it's likely irritation.

Try examining his penis to see if it looks a bit red or even somewhat purple.

My 6 year old son who wets the bed and wears diapers had the same issue and it turned out that it was just irritation from the diaper and pee, even though he would clean up.

If possible, I would allow him to air out for a few hours at a time before putting another diaper on or let him go all day without a diaper and just change his pants for awhile, if he pees in them.

If the pee burning last longer than a few days, it could be a UTI, but if he's not peeing any blood, it's most likely just irritation, but just keep an eye out and if it continues to burn, take him to the doctor or urgent care.

Hope your 8 year old son is doing okay.

Any update on what was causing the issue or if the burning has gone away or not.

I used to take care of a 7 year old boy that was incontinent and had to wear diapers and he sometimes would also get the burning sensation on his penis and it would usually be just irritation from the urine and using some diaper rash cream and changing his diaper more often helped.
