Yes age of a domain name does play a big role in Googles Search Rankings and if your domain is 8 years old or older then you can usually start ranking for more competitive keywords within a day or a few weeks instead of waiting a year or two to see the first page results on Google Search.
You need to have an older domain plus older website for it to really give you ranking boosts and results.
I've noticed that the websites that has domains that are 8 years or older tend to rank within a few days on Google Search.
Bing and Yahoo also tend to rank websites higher and much faster the older the domain and website.
So as you continue to work on your blog and add content and the blog ages then you could likely post a new blog post like I do sometimes and see it shoot to the top of Googles first page within a day or two.
But don't expect to see those results until your website and domain have been around from 7 to 8 years or longer but it can sometimes happen sooner if you're really good at SEO.
