Cooking noodles on the stove in a pot of boiling water takes around 15 minutes.
Once you get the noodles and water up to boiling you can turn the heat down to simmer which prevents the water from boiling over the pot and onto the stove.
My noodles are usually done and soft enough in 15 minutes once the water comes to a boil and it sits there and simmers.
If the noodles aren't soft enough for you then you may want to cook the noodles a little longer and also be sure to stir the noodles every few minutes while the noodles are cooking to avoid them sticking to the bottom of the pan as they sometimes do.
