In May of 2024 Moldelez International which is the owner of Ritz crackers reduced the weight of their Ritz crackers and some of their other products.
The 200g packs of Original and Cheese Ritz crackers were replaced with 150g and 140g packs, respectively.
This is a 25 percent and 30 percent weight decrease.
And the price of the Ritz crackers remained the same and is an example of shrinkflation which is when a company reduces the size of a product and keeps the price the same.
The reduction in size of the Ritz crackers was a last resort to keep Ritz crackers and Ritz competitive and maintain the quality and taste of the crackers.
Ritz cited higher input costs across their supply chain which included the ingredients, energy, transport and packing.
