Things that will explode in the microwave are foods such as eggs which are still in the shell, whole potatoes can explode in the microwave, tomatoes and tomato sauce, hot dogs if cooked too long and foods with skin, like apples, squash, sausages and other foods that have skin and internal moisture can explode.

Similar to eggs, the whole potatoes can buildup steam that is trapped and build pressure and cause the potato to burst.

Also sealed containers which include glass or plastic containers and metal containers can explode in a microwave. '

Steam pressure from the heated liquids or food can cause the sealed container to break or explode in the microwave.

Microwaves cannot penetrate metal, and so the energy is reflected, and potentially causes sparks and damage to the microwave, which includes foil metal lined mugs and some takeout containers.

Items that you Cannot put in the microwave are metal objects including metal cups, metal plates, metal baking pans, styrofoam, aluminum foil, raw hot peppers and eggs that are in their shells.

Eggs that are in the shells can explode in the microwave when heated due to the buildup of pressure inside the egg.

And some plastic contains and packaging cannot be microwaved and certain foods such as raw meats and grapes should not be microwaved.

Anything that is made of or containing steel, iron, copper or other hard metals should never be microwaved as the metal can spark inside the microwave and damage the microwave.

Paper plates can be put in the microwave as long as they are microwave safe paper plates and are free of designs and coatings.

You can tell if a paper plate is microwave safe by looking for a microwave safe label on the plate or the packaging.

Also if a paper plate is microwave safe it will be plain white and free of any types of designs or any coatings that could release chemicals that are harmful when heated.

Most of the plain paper plates are microwave safe, although if left in the microwave too long they could burn or start a fire.

But the majority of paper plates without designs or coatings are safe to use in the microwave.

You can test a paper plate in the microwave by placing a bowl of water on the paper plate and microwave it and check and see if the paper plate stays cool or gets hot.

If the paper plate does get hot then it's not considered microwave safe.

If the paper plate stays cool then it's considered microwave safe.

You can also microwave ceramic plates and plastic plats and bowls as long as they have no decorations on them.

And even ceramic coffee mugs can be microwaved as well.
