To trigger descale on your Keurig make sure the Keurig is powered off and plugged in.

Then to trigger the descale on the Keurig press and hold the 8 oz and 12oz buttons together and hold for 3 seconds.

When it's flashing then press the brew button to start the descaling process of the Keurig.

You should replace the filter in your Keurig as often as every 3 months to keep the coffee tasting the best.

To install a Keurig filter.

Soak the charcoal filter cartridge for 5 minutes in fresh water. Rinse the cartridge for 60 seconds once complete.

On the bottom of the handle, press in the tabs on both sides of the base at the same time and pull down to separate.
Insert the filter cartridge.

Reattach the bottom of the Water Filter Handle.

Insert the handle into your empty, removable Water Reservoir.

Be sure to push down firmly all the way down to correctly attach the Water Filter to the inside of your removable Water Reservoir.

Keurig models that support water filters include Keurig Duo, Keurig Duo Plus, K-Supreme, K-Slim, K-Cafe, K-Elite, K-Select, K-Classic, K-Express, and K145.

Some smaller Keurig models, like Keurig Mini or K-Mini Plus, do not have water filters or the option to add a water filter.

Not all keurigs take the same filter although most newer Keurig models except for the office style, Rivo and K200 Keurig models use the same charcoal filters.

If you have a Classic series Keurig, your filter will be black with a circular timer on the end.

And if you have a K200 Plus, the filter will be clear and shorter, while the K300 and higher models have filters that are tall, thin, and clear.

If your Keurig coffee brewer has a rear water reservoir, like the K250, K-Compact, K-Latte, K-Duo and K-Duo Essentials, you will need the Short Handle Water Filter.

The reason why you should not use distilled water in a Keurig is because distilled water is such a good solvent, it causes the coffee grounds to swell, and slow the flow of water which also leads to bitter, over-extracted coffee or possible brew basket overflow.

It is OK to leave water in a Keurig all the time as long as the water is refreshed daily as stale water can lead to mold growth and bacteria.

As long as you constantly refresh the water daily then it's fine to leave the water in your Keurig machine all the time.

You can use tap water in a Keurig.

However filtered water or bottled water is better in a Keurig to make the best coffee.

Tap water contains chlorine which can make the coffee taste bad for some people and filtered water or bottled water makes the coffee from Keurig taste better.

But tap water in a Keurig is just fine.

Any water can be used in a Keurig, but the K-Supreme Plus Smart coffee maker does not perform at its best with distilled water or high-alkalinity water.

While any type of water can be used in a Keurig coffee machine Keurig recommends using bottled or filtered water in your Keurig coffee maker.

Coffee and tea are over 98% water so using quality drinking water is necessary for a good coffee, tea or iced beverage.

All Keurig coffee machines and brewers can function properly with tap water.

Distilled water is not recommended to be used in Keurig machines because distilled water is such a good solvent, it causes the coffee grounds to swell, and slow the flow of water.

This leads to bitter, over-extracted coffee or possible brew basket overflow.
