Why did my rankings in Google Search go down after switching to https?

My blog previously used http as the connection to the website but after I read about Google giving a ranking boost to https secured websites I purchased and installed an SSL certificate on my website but for some reason I actually lost rankings in Google search and have lost some traffic as a result?

Has anyone else experienced this problem and what can I do to get my google rankings back after installed SSL on my blog?

You certainly did the right thing switching over from http to https for your website and you will eventually see your rankings come back and even improve overtime.

It's a very normal thing to temporarily lose some rankings and then the rankings should come back within 3 months if you implemented the SSL certificate correctly.

One common problem I read about is people not forcing there website to use the ssl certificate by redirecting the url to https through apache.

It's hard to explain on here but search google for how to force website to use SSL and you'll find good tutorials on how to force the website to use the SSL certificate.

If you've implemented the SSL certificate correctly then the website should be using the SSL certificate on all pages of the website.

When I moved over to https and installed an SSL certificate my Rankings did go down for 3 months but even then some new blog posts started ranking faster as in within a few days instead of months.

Google did officially announce that websites that use an SSL certificate will see a slight ranking boost so you did do the right thing implementing the SSL certificate and you'll see the website climb in ranking after awhile.
