Maggi is or was banned in India as well as other countries because of concerns about lead levels and also the presence of MSG also known as monosodium glutamate.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India banned Maggi in June 2015 after tests found lead levels which were higher than the levels permissible.
The ban was imposed on all nine variants of Maggi instant noodles.
However the ban on Maggi was lifted in November 2015 after Maggi noodles passed new lab tests.
Maggi noodles contain trans fats, which can up the levels of bad cholesterol in the body, and create problems for the heart to function properly.
Excessive consumption of trans fats can cause serious health problems such as diabetes, heart conditions and nutritional deficiencies.
The side effects of MSG or monosodium glutamate in Maggi and other foods include.
Headache.
Flushing.
Sweating.
Face pressure or tightness.
Lack of feeling (numbness), tingling or burning in the face, neck and other areas.
Quick, fluttering heartbeats.
Chest pain.
Feeling sick (nausea).
