The reason it's illegal to wash eggs in Europe is because it reduces the natural barrier on the egg which can cause bacteria to enter the egg.

However you can wash eggs at home in Europe but egg producers cannot legally wash the eggs in Europe.

In Europe chickens are vaccinated for Salmonella and in the U.S. eggs are washed for Salmonella.

Supermarkets in some countries such as Asia and Europe do not keep eggs in the fridge as they would get a lot of condensation on the way home from the supermarket and would encourage contamination of the eggs should the shell.

In most European and Asian countries, eggs are not washed or refrigerated because the eggs retain a natural protective layer called the cuticle, which prevents bacterial growth.

Since this layer remains intact, eggs in other countries don't need to go in the fridge.

In the U.S. and America eggs are kept refrigerated in Supermarkets and should be kept refrigerated once you get them home.

You can leave eggs on the counter about two hours at room temperature or one hour if the temperature is 90 degrees F or hotter before you start to worry, per the Egg Safety Center.

After 2 hours, you'd be safer to throw those eggs out and get a fresh dozen rather than chance it.

However I have left eggs out at room temperature before for up to a week and they have been fine but in hotter conditions the eggs will tend to go bad sooner.
