For whole tomatoes they are best stored at room temperature.
When tomatoes are kept in the refrigerator whole the tomatoes flavor and texture can change drastically and make the tomatoes mealy and less testy.
Only refrigerate any ripe tomatoes if you need to extend the shelf life but the loss of flavor can occur.
Once you cut up, dice, slice etc the tomatoes then they should be kept refrigerated in a Ziploc bag or sealed container.
Tomatoes should be kept out at room temperature when whole and kept away from direct sunlight until they are fully ripe.
Refrigerating tomatoes slows down the ripening process so if they are not fully ripe they should be out at room temperature.
If you have very ripe tomatoes which you want to use or eat quickly then storing them in the fridge can help extent their lifespan but they will have a slight flavor change.
The ideal storage temperature for tomatoes is between 55 and 70 degrees F, but the temperature of most refrigerators is closer to 40 degrees F.
