The reason your steak smells like cheese is because the steak has spoiled and gone bad.

When steak goes bad it will take on a cheesy odor from the overgrowth of bacteria and if your steak smells like cheese it should be thrown out.

Grey steak or Gray Steak is safe to eat as steak that is in the fridge for a few days will naturally turn a gray or brown color.

Add beef broth, onion, and mushrooms; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until patties are no longer pink in the center, about 10 minutes more.

Transfer patties to a platter and keep warm.

Step 3

Bring onion mixture to a boil. Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl; stir into onion mixture.

Cook and stir until onion gravy is thickened, about 1 minute. Pour over patties to serve.
