You can use home canned pork by adding it to salads, soups, stews, sandwiches etc.

Canned pork can also be added to beans or eaten plain or alongside other foods.

To preserve pork meat you can cure the pork meat with a salt and brine solution and then seal it in plastic airtight plastic.

Or you can also cook the pork meat and then can the pork meat which will preserve the pork meat and make it last longer.

Canned pork is already cooked as the pork is submerged in boiling water when canning it so that it cooks the pork in the can.

The raw pork is added to the can and then the cans go through a boiling process which cooks the canned pork and other canned meats.

So the canned pork is already cooked and ready to eat although some people prefer to heat it up.

Home canned pork is good for around 5 years although the home canned pork can remain safe after that time but it won't be at it's freshest.

Canned pork is good for around 5 years although it can remain safe to eat after 5 years as long as the can has no rust, holes or the jar if in a jar has not been unsealed.

It's best to eat the canned pork or other canned meats within a few years or at least within 5 years as the taste and quality can change the longer it's kept.

You don't need to cook canned meat as canned meat is cooked during the canning process when it's heated up.

When meat is canned or other food is canned the can of meat or canned food is cooked with steam and boiling water so the meat and canned food becomes cooked.

You can eat canned food straight from the can without heating it unless you want too.

The best meat for canning are.

Chuck Roasts.

Beef Ribs and Bones.

Sirloin.

Round Steak.

Other good meats that are best for canning are beef, veal, pork, lamb, mutton, venison, moose, and bear.

Poultry and small game meat may also be canned, including chicken, turkey, duck, goose and rabbit.

To can meat in mason jars simply begin boiling the meat until it's cooked and then while the meat is still hot place the meat into the mason jars with broth or the hot liquid from the boiling of the meats.

Then place the lid on the jar and close it and put it in a pressure cooker and the pressure from the pressure cooker will seal the lid on the canning jar.

Pack hot meat loosely into hot jars leaving 1-inch headspace.

Fill jars with boiling broth, meat drippings, water, or tomato juice (especially for wild game) to 1 inch from top of jar.

Remove bubbles, wipe jar rims, adjust lids and process in pressure canner.

Pressure canned meat can last for 5 years to 10 years although the pressure canned meat is at best quality for 1 to 2 years but it remains safe after that time.

You can tell when canned food is bad by looking at the can if it's a metal can and looking for swelling, bulging, rust, holes in the can etc.

You can also open the can of food and if it smells bad then or has mold in it or looks spoiled then it's bad and should be thrown out.

For jar canned food the only way to tell is to look at the food and see if it has any changes in color, has mold or you can open it and smell it.

The best canned foods to stockpile are canned corn, canned Lasagne, chicken noodle soup, canned Ravoli, Spaghettios, tuna, salmon, chicken, corned beef, turkey, Spam, and even bacon.

Canned foods should not be stored in a hot garage as the heat and humidity of the hot garage can cause the canned food cans to rust and then cause the food to spoil inside the cans once they develop holes in the cans from the rust.

It's best to store canned foods in cool dry place to prevent rust on the cans.

You can live on canned fruit or other fruits if that is all you have.

However it's best to have a variety of different canned foods or shelf stable foods around in the event there's something that prevents you from getting food and you need to survive.

It's best to have some canned meats, canned vegetables etc along with the canned fruit.

The best canned foods to stockpile are canned corn, canned Lasagne, chicken noodle soup, canned Ravoli, Spaghettios, tuna, salmon, chicken, corned beef, turkey, Spam, and even bacon.

You can also eat the food in the dented can if the can has no holes in it.

Just because a food can is dented it does not mean the food is bad or unsafe to eat.

Many people assume that because the can is dented that it's not safe to eat the food but that is not true as the food is still safely contained and sealed in the can unless it is actually leaking.

Canned food can last for basically forever although it has an expiration date.

Expired canned food is safe to eat and is just as good as fresh canned food as the food being in a can helps to preserve it and make it shelf stable.

Most shelf-stable foods are safe indefinitely.

In fact, canned goods will last for years, as long as the can itself is in good condition (no rust, dents, or swelling).

Packaged foods (cereal, pasta, cookies) will be safe past the 'best by' date, although they may eventually become stale or develop an off flavor.

While canned goods past their "best-by" date may not taste optimal, there's no real health risk in consuming canned goods as long as they remain in good condition.

If the can is leaking, bulging, or swollen; the container looks damaged, cracked, or abnormal; the container spurts liquid or foam when opened; or. the food is discolored, moldy, or smells bad then it should be thrown out.

Although it's a rare occurrence, botulism is generally associated with improper home canning, but may still be found in some consumer food products.

It's a serious illness that paralyzes muscles and can even lead to death.
