If you put a can of coke in the freezer the can of coke will eventually freeze and expand and then burst open the can.

Due to the carbonation of the coke soda the can may actually rupture fully and send the coke spreading around inside the freezer.

I once left a few cans of soda out in my camper trailer during a freezing cold night and I heard something explode outside from my bedroom as the camper trailer was sitting right outside my bedroom.

I thought something bad happened inside the camper trailer but turns out the can of soda actually just exploded inside the camper and left some soda on the ceiling and floor and walls of the camper trailer.

So in a freezer the coke would also most likely rupture in the can and go all over the place in the freezer or at least the soda can would split open.

Frozen soda can explosions are not due directly to water expanding as it freezes, but to the resulting pressure put on an isolated pocket of C02.”

The problem, however, isn't just that it can be messy.

It can be dangerous too.

When placed in the freezer, the water in the soda expands inside the can, and the volume becomes greater than what the can was designed to hold.

This pressure causes the can to become strained and to eventually POP when left in the freezer for too long - leaving you with a messy surprise to clean up in your freezer!
