There still is a 3 strike rule in California.

California does still have a 3 strike rule.

There still is a 3 strike law in California.

Although the 3 strike law in California has changed some but it is still in effect.

California's Three Strikes sentencing law was originally enacted in 1994.

The essence of the Three Strikes law was to require a defendant convicted of any new felony, having suffered one prior conviction of a serious felony to be sentenced to state prison for twice the term otherwise provided for the crime.

California's three strikes law is still in effect, although it has changed since it was initially enacted in the 1990's.

It was passed as a way to reduce the number of violent recidivist offenders in the state.

Prior to the 2012 reforms, any felony, no matter how minor, might have triggered a third strike.

Now, however, only major felony crimes like rape are punishable under the Three Strikes Law.

The crimes that fall under the 3 strikes law in California are.

Murder or voluntary manslaughter;
Mayhem;
Rape;
Any felony punishable by death or imprisonment in state prison for life;
Any felony in which the defendant personally inflicts great bodily injury on any.
person;
Any felony in which the defendant personally uses a firearm;

If you get sentenced under the 3 strikes law then you'll have more time than normal added to your sentence.

In some cases the sentence may be for life depending on how severe the crime is and what other crimes you've committed before.
