The reason Aldis is so cheap is because they don't sell national brands or other brands other than there own.

Aldis sells there own brands of food and other merchandise which means they can keep the prices lower than having to stock other brands of foods from other companies.

Basically Aldis can sell their food and other items they have cheaper because they don't have national brands, they have less to warehouse and display in the store.

This means having smaller stores compared to most other grocery retailers, and in return, smaller rent prices!

Aldi is the common brand of two German family-owned discount supermarket chains with over 10,000 stores in 20 countries and an estimated combined turnover of more than €50 billion.

The chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946 when they took over their mother's store in Essen.

Aldi does own Trader Joe's, but it is not the Aldi chain familiar to North American shoppers.

Trader Joe's is owned by Aldi Nord, which was formed when the two brothers who founded the Albrecht Discount chain in Germany parted ways.

Aldi Sud oversees Aldi US operations.

Most German towns and villages have at least one Aldi shop. There are about 4,100 stores in Germany, and 7,600 worldwide.

The name of the shop stands for ALbrecht-DIscount.

The company is a food retailer, but it also sells non-food at times.

Aldi is not always cheaper than Walmart, particularly where seafood and produce are concerned. Walmart, whose stores outnumber Aldi 2-to-1, has dropped prices on many of their store brand, Great Value, items.

This has created instances where Aldi is not the cheapest, though usually, the difference is only a few cents.
